Why this list exists

The article “Polonia organization certificate for Karta Polaka” explains the legal basis of this path: at least 3 years of active engagement in a Polish or Polonia organization replaces the requirement for documented Polish ancestry.

Not every organization qualifies. The law (Art. 13(4) of the Karta Polaka Act) requires the organization to be on the official list published by Poland's Minister of Foreign Affairs in the official gazette Monitor Polski. A certificate from an organization outside this list is not a valid basis for Karta Polaka.

How to check an organization

The current list was approved by an MFA announcement dated March 18, 2025 (M.P. 2025 poz. 264). Before relying on a specific organization, it is worth checking whether it is still on the list: the lists are periodically updated with new announcements. Official text of the announcement: prawo.pl.

Important disclaimer: The PLTest team made every reasonable effort to find an official website or public page for each organization on this list. But these are links to third-party resources we do not control: a site may have changed, moved to a different domain, or disappeared. Before relying on a specific organization for Karta Polaka, independently verify its current status on the official Monitor Polski list and contact the organization directly. Frequently asked questions

Can Karta Polaka be obtained through any Polish organization?

No. Only through an organization on the official Monitor Polski list. A certificate from an organization outside the list is not a valid basis.

How long do you need to be a member of the organization?

At least 3 years of active engagement in activities supporting the Polish language, culture, or the Polish national minority (Art. 2(1)(3) of the Karta Polaka Act).

Are there organizations in the US on the list?

Yes, seven organizations, including the Polish American Congress and its state chapters. Full list in the section above.

Is this basis planned to be abolished?

Yes. The MFA's draft bill proposes removing this basis entirely. More details in the article “Karta Polaka 2026: what changes if the Foreign Ministry's bill passes.”

My country is not on the list, what should I do?

This specific basis is not available to you. Focus on the main path, documented Polish ancestry: it does not depend on your country of residence.
